There’s something special about escaping to the mountains for a weekend — fresh air, lake views, comfort food, live music, and the kind of small-town charm that instantly slows life down. That’s exactly what I experienced during my two-day getaway to Deep Creek, Maryland, and honestly, it reminded me why Deep Creek truly is the Ultimate Destination.
From lakeside lounging and cocktail making to pizza crafting and cinnamon bun frosting, this trip was packed with memorable experiences, delicious food, and fun local traditions.
Cove Creek Lodge
Address: 19638 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD 21550
Our home for the weekend was Cove Creek Lodge, a cozy lakeside stay that perfectly captured the relaxing Deep Creek vibe. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the property itself had so many thoughtful touches that made the stay feel extra welcoming.
One of my favorite parts? The live music at the hotel. There’s just something about sitting outside near the lake, drink in hand, listening to live music while the sun starts to set over Deep Creek Lake. It immediately set the tone for a relaxing weekend getaway.
The lodge also provides complimentary kayaks and paddleboards for hotel guests, which would’ve been amazing to take advantage of — but the chilly weather had other plans for us. Even though it was too cold to get out on the water, it was still nice seeing guests enjoy the lake views and outdoor spaces around the property.
Cocktail Making at Honi Honi Bar
Address: 19745 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD 21550
No Deep Creek weekend is complete without stopping by Honi Honi Bar, one of the most iconic spots in the area.
We got the opportunity to go behind the bar and learn how to make cocktails ourselves, which was such a fun experience. From tropical drinks to spicy margaritas, the cocktail-making session gave us a hands-on look at what makes Honi Honi such a local favorite.

Afterward, we stayed to watch Rushmore perform live, and the energy there was incredible. Between the live music, waterfront atmosphere, and crowd singing along, it felt like the ultimate summer lake destination.
Learning the Art of Deep-Dish Pizza at Deep Creek UNO
One of the coolest experiences of the weekend was getting to make deep dish pizza at UNO Pizzeria & Grill.
I learned that the Deep Creek UNO location has its own unique history and approach to pizza-making. We got to build our own iconic deep-dish pizzas step-by-step — starting with the cheese first, then the chunky tomato sauce, followed by toppings. We customized our deep-dish pizza with pepperoni, onions, and mushrooms, then added banana peppers to one half so my husband could enjoy a little extra kick. Then came another layer of cheese and a sprinkle of Romano seasoning before it headed into the oven.

Watching the pizzas bake for 15 minutes while learning fun facts about the restaurant made the whole experience even more memorable. And honestly? That first cheesy bite fresh out of the oven was worth the wait.

Dinner at Deep Creek UNO
Address: 19814 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD 21550
We also enjoyed dinner there later in the trip, trying even more menu favorites and desserts. Deep Creek UNO really became one of our staple spots during the weekend.

Pepperoni Rolls and Cinnamon Buns at Arrowhead Market
Another unforgettable stop was Arrowhead Market, where we got an inside look at how they make some of their most popular baked goods.

We toured the kitchen, watched the team prepare their famous pepperoni rolls and giant cinnamon buns, and even got to help frost the cinnamon buns ourselves. It was such a fun interactive experience — and yes, the cinnamon buns tasted just as amazing as they looked.
Brunch at Arrowhead Market
Address: 19746 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD 21550
We also stayed for brunch and quickly realized why locals love this spot so much. From hearty breakfast burritos to burgers and loaded fries, Arrowhead Market had something for everyone.
A Community Celebration: The Elephant Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
One of the most unique moments of the weekend was attending the elephant ribbon cutting ceremony at UNO Pizzeria & Grill.

The entire event had such a fun and wholesome community feel. Local Girl Scouts participated wearing adorable elephant-themed crafted headwear, and everyone gathered to celebrate the newest elephant mascot addition. Between the ribbon cutting, photo opportunities, and community excitement, it felt like one of those charming small-town moments that make trips memorable.

Exploring Downtown Oakland with Maya
During the trip, I also met up with a dear friend to spend time exploring Downtown Oakland. Walking through the charming streets, browsing local shops (such as Englanders, The Gallery Shop, and Painted Cupboard), and catching up together made the weekend even more meaningful.
Of course, no visit would be complete without stopping at Lakeside Creamery for ice cream. There’s something nostalgic about ending a day with ice cream near the lake, especially in Deep Creek. Lakeside Creamery, located at 20282 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD 21550, is known for rotating a variety of unique and seasonal flavors throughout the year, so there's always something new to try. Alongside those specialty offerings, you'll find a lineup of classic favorites including Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Cookies & Cream, Cake Batter, Chocolate Chip, Mint Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Fudge, Chocolate Butter Fudge, Butter Pecan, Maple Walnut, and a rotating coffee-inspired option such as Coffee or Mocha Chip. Whether you're a traditional ice cream lover or enjoy trying something new, there's a flavor for everyone.

After grabbing ice cream, we continued exploring some of Downtown Oakland’s unique local gift shops, including Schoolhouse Earth, The Tourist Trap, and Christmas Chalet. From home décor and local treasures to Deep Creek-themed merchandise and year-round Christmas decorations, each shop had its own personality and charm. It was the perfect way to slow down, support local businesses, and experience the small-town charm that makes Deep Creek feel so welcoming.
Movie Night at Garrett 8 Cinemas
Address: 19741 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD 21550
To wind down after a packed day, we caught Obsession at Garrett 8 Cinemas. It added another cozy, small-town touch to the weekend and gave us a chance to relax before heading back out for more evening fun.
Cocktails at Black Antler Lounge
Before dinner, we stopped by Black Antler Lounge, the cozy evening lounge located inside Cove Creek Lodge. It was the perfect pre-dinner spot to unwind with cocktails before heading out for the night.

The atmosphere felt warm and inviting, making it easy to relax after a full day exploring Deep Creek. Sipping cocktails at the lodge before dinner added such a nice, elevated touch to the getaway experience and made the evening feel extra special.
Dinner at Deep Creek UNO
Address: 19814 Garrett Hwy, Oakland, MD 21550
After drinks, we headed back to UNO Pizzeria & Grill for dinner, where we shared the Mediterranean Chicken entree with a Berry & Goat Cheese Salad (without walnuts) while soaking in the lively weekend atmosphere.

Why Deep Creek is the Ultimate Destination
What made this trip so special wasn’t just one activity — it was the combination of everything. The live music, lake views, delicious food, hands-on experiences, local traditions, and welcoming community all came together to create the perfect weekend escape.
Deep Creek has a way of balancing adventure and relaxation effortlessly. Whether you’re making cocktails by the lake, learning how to craft deep dish pizza, frosting cinnamon buns, exploring downtown shops, or simply listening to live music outside your hotel, there’s always something memorable waiting around the corner.
After spending two days there, one thing became very clear: Deep Creek truly is the Ultimate Destination.
